1984
Group Formation
Started on Founders Day, 22nd February 1984, the group began with 12 members and 2 scouters. The Scouts section began meeting on Thursday evenings in the Reading Room in Cheekpoint, the first meeting held on Thursday 15th March 1984.

The group charter was issued on 3rd April, 1984 under the leadership of Jimmy Flynn, Gerard Doherty and local parish priest Fr James Aylward.
​
The first scout camp was held in Youghal on the June Bank holiday weekend of that year.
1985
Younger Members Join
Both Scouters and Youth members had continued to grow, by May 1985 the group had expanded sufficiently to support the first Cub Scout section (9 to 12 year olds), held on 1st May 1985.
​
In October 1985, the Cub Scouts section Scouters attended weekend training at Mount Mellary Scout Centre.
1990's
Regional & National Presence from our local Community
Our catchment area from Ballygunner temple and Woodstown to Faithlegg and Cheekpoint has continue to support the growth of the group, in the later part of this decade our youth members had increased to over 50 with 10 Scouters.

The Scout section took part in the national Melvin competition for the first time.
​
The Cub Scout section attended two national Cub camps, winning the Most Improved Section Award in the region in 1995 and the Regional Cub Challenge Event in 1997.
​
The first Beavers Section (6 to 9 year olds) met in September 1999.
2000's
From Strength to Strength
The scout section took part in the national Melvin competition for the second time while two of our scouts received National Scout awards. In addition, two other scouts received the Cheif Scout Award, to be the first to receive the award in the new Waterford Scout County.
​
In 2004, our Cub section won the Regional Cub Challenge. This was the last time this event was held, and the group still holds the trophy. The group won four awards in the national rankings, and was ranked in the top five in Waterford Scout county. We continue to be ranked in the top four to this day.
​
The group attended the International Jamboree in Punchestown, county Kildare in August 2008.
​
By the end of the 2000's, the group had grown to 82 youth and 21 scouters.
2010's
Local Group goes Global with regional bravery
by the end of the 2010's, the group had grown to 130 youth members, 35 leaders and operated 5 sections, with Venture Scouts first meeting in 2014.
​
The Cubs section qualified for National Cub Challenge two years in a row, and the Scouts section qualified for one National Pheonix Competition.
​
In 2014, 4 leaders received meritorious awards for bravery and acknowledged by the rescue services for expertise and comptence on seperate rescue missions.
​
The Scout and Venture sections held their annual camps in the UK in 2011, 2018 and 2019. In addition, 3 scouts attended the World Scout Jamboree in the USA.
2023
Group Cements routes in Cheekpoint
On the eve of our 40th birthday, the group holds annual camp in Belfare with 4 of its 5 sections, has a membership with 128 youth and 34 scouters.

31st Waterford Faithlegg Scout Group secures its committment to the Cheekpoint community by purchasing 16 acres on the edge of the village, with plans to develop a modist den, forested area and camp sites.
​
The official opening was 1st Octiber, 2023
